Water Pumping Station – 3D Laser Scan & Model Summary:
The Scan2BIM team at Severn Partnership were commissioned to undertake a 3D laser scan and 3D model of a Pumping Station based in Doncaster.
Overview:
Our client required a full 3D CAD model of the area, as well as extracted 2D elevations, sections and floor plans to allow GRP data to be later added. The works including scanning the grounds, dry well and wet well. As these spaces were confined, our client required surveyors with the appropriate confined space training. Health and safety procedures were put in place, including a full risk assessment and method statement to ensure a safe working environment.

A control network was installed externally, as well as inside each of the confined spaces and coordinated to OS grid. 40 scans were captured using a Lecia P20 and registered together using Cyclone 9.1. The data was then indexed for use within AutoCAD. All of the features visible were modelled, this included all pipes, electrical installations, access stairs, platforms and topography.

Facts:
- The as-built data will now be used to redesign the space.
- The site work was completed in two days, followed by one day registration and five days modelling.
