Service Summary
With the addition of NavVis, we are one of the first companies to have an integrated workflow for mobile mapping outside (topographical), underground (utilities) and inside buildings, assets and structures.
NavVis enables extremely rapid mobile capture of 3D asset data, uploaded to a web-based intelligent digital twin which enables stakeholder collaboration, planning and informed decision making.
Problems and Solutions
Owners, operators and contractors need web-based digital asset information at their fingertips to enable collaboration and informed decision making throughout the whole construction cycle.
The same need spans buildings, infrastructure, engineering plant and manufacturing facilities; even more so now energy and travel costs are high and the need for safety and logistical planning is paramount.
The problem to date has been the speed of data capture with traditional tripod-based scanners, combined with the specialist software and training needed to access this data.
The disruptive solution to this has come from the manufacturing sector, where the principles of ‘lean’ drive efficiency and improvement. Rapid and accurate 3D scanning of complex buildings and structures was required for factory refurbishment, along with enabling easy web-based access to directors, project managers, safety teams, architects and engineers. The result was reality capture at walking pace using SLAM technology (simultaneous localisation and mapping), with complementary 360 images, delivered on a web based digital twin platform – or #slamtotwin.
The Ivion Platform for Digital Asset Management
Ivion enables a web-based map view of multiple assets at once, so it can be used for a one-off project, or to simplify access to asset data which spans the UK or worldwide. It is a reality capture platform to allow management of 3D scan datasets, along with tools to mark-up and measure in browser, crop and download point clouds.
With a simple to use, intuitive design, it offers benefits such as:
- Improved decision making in operations, planning and engineering
- Avoidance of re-work in construction
- Delegated secure access can be given to stakeholders and suppliers
- Management, access and archiving of 3D scanned assed data
Intelligent points of interest can be added to the data and linked to asset information or live data feeds – which is the element that bridges the link from physical assets & digital data – a digital twin.
IvionGo
Ease of access starts with web-based browser access to data but can be further extended by mobile application – IvionGo. This Android and IoS mobile app allows users to log observations, issues and inspection notes straight into points of interest tagged in the digital twin. These can then become discussion points with tracked progress between colleagues.
The aim is to reduce construction problems, collect improvement ideas, reduce maintenance downtime and share actual locations of assets and defects – being the definitive ‘where’ for asset data.
Users can both share information points and get live ‘Augmented Reality’ (AR) views to navigate to points of interest or overlay digital information on the physical objects using a phone screen AR view.
