Project Summary

iconsys approached us with a request for a 3D point cloud of their recently built Container Solutions, to showcase and highlight their unique, engineered solutions for marine and land-based projects.

Whilst maintaining minimal disruption to their operations, we were able to capture the required data quickly and accurately. This was achieved by utilising the latest in advanced mobile mapping technology in conjunction with streamlined processes.

Our Solutions

  • Efficient Data Capture: Our use of the NavVis SLAM technology, a wearable mobile mapping system, reduced the time needed for our personnel to be on-site by 60% when compared to traditional survey methods. In fact, reality capture for this project took just a few hours to complete, where this might normally have taken a few days.
  • Minimal Disruption: Requiring only two members of the Severn Partnership team, this project saw us capture highly accurate data on the move around iconsys’ structures, avoiding the need for individual scan set-ups and creating no standing hazards or interference with the company’s daily operations.
  • Automatic Data Processing: Our use of the Ivion Platform eliminated the need for point cloud registration of individual scans, with data processed automatically, saving both time and costs.
  • Real-time Results: Live scanning feedback meant our surveyors could monitor their scanning progress in real-time, ensuring complete coverage for the client and no repeat visits were required for missing data.

As per our brief, we delivered a comprehensive point cloud and images of the survey to our client, all hosted in IVION and accessible to them, from anywhere via cloud storage.

Our Approach and Benefits vs. Conventional Methods

Our approach with the NavVis and IVION tech solutions significantly reduced our time required on-site, a considerable benefit to our client who were required to allocate resource as a chaperone whilst our team were present.

We eliminated the need for individual scans, capturing the data in one continuous flow with SLAM technology for increased cost and time savings. This also contributed to a safer project for all involved, with no need for tripods acting as trip hazards in a heavily pedestrianised scan area.

As opposed to the data processing methods of traditional laser scanning, our IVION workflow on this project allowed iconsys further value, with the data being processed in the cloud amounting to more time and money saved.

inconsys were impressed with the quick turnaround and delivery, with considerably less health and safety hazards and a reduced carbon footprint. In particular, Andrew Bunce at iconsys, who shared his excitement via social media for the results of our data capture as a key element for their business objectives.

We look forward to exploring further potential opportunities with our client, iconsys.

Client Feedback

“Through the innovative 3D mapping capabilities of NavVis, we were able to demonstrate our offerings in vivid detail to our customers.

By offering a virtual walkthrough experience, we can place our customers directly in the heart of our solution, enabling them to understand and visualise the full scope of what we provide.

It’s more than just a presentation, it’s a dynamic captivating visual narrative that brings our services to life before their eyes.”
