Meet The Experts

Darren joined Severn Partnership in 2008 on a fast-track graduate programme, after studying Civil Engineering Surveying BSc (Hons) at the University of East London.

Since then, he has held a number of roles within the company from Assistant Surveyor right through to Operations Manager, before taking on his current role of Managing Director.

Darren has been involved with numerous projects throughout the UK, surrounding islands and many countries worldwide. He now has full responsibility for our multi-service business, creates and implements our operational strategy and actions our integral lean practices.

Darren takes pride in passing on his industry knowledge and expertise to Severn Partnership's employees and wide client base.

Outside of work and at the weekends, he likes to keep active by riding Motocross and mountain biking with his two sons.

Jamie joined Severn Partnership in 1998 after studying Surveying and Mapping Sciences (BSc) Hons at the University of East London, and is currently completing his APC for RICs and CICES membership.

His professional career has seen him specialise in large-scale rail & p-way surveys, having managed High Output Track Renewal survey campaigns for over a decade. He has also had vast experience with various Line Speed Enhancement programmes and over 120 railway station survey projects.

As Technical Director, Jamie manages and advances the technical objectives of the business and is driven to achieving Severn Partnership's short and long-term goals. He oversees the company's business operations, financial performance, investments and ventures, as well as ensuring company policies and legal guidelines are clearly communicated.

Jamie is a lifelong Liverpool F.C. supporter and enjoys spending time outside of work with his family.

Mike joined Severn Partnership in 2013 after previously working as a Hydrographic, Meteorological and Oceanographic Surveyor in the Royal Navy.

He studied for a BTEC level 3 in Construction in the Built Environment & Construction Engineering at Telford College.

His progression through the company started with an Assistant Surveyor role. Mike then spent the next few years working hard to learn all elements of site survey and office processing, leading him to take on and successfully orchestrate larger scale projects. His appointment as Associate Director, and then as Operations Director for Severn Partnership was an easy decision to make.

Specialising in Utilities and GPR surveys, Mike takes great pride in his meticulous planning and thorough client communication.

During his time with the company, Mike has been involved with numerous projects throughout the UK including those for the South Wales Valley Lines upgrade and South West Resilience scheme.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys camping trips with his family and competing in triathlons.

Jon brings over 18 years of experience in the surveying industry to Severn Partnership, having started his career as an assistant land surveyor in 2005 and advancing to senior roles, including project manager. Jon has managed key projects for Heathrow Airport, TfL, National Highways and HS2, always prioritising quality and service.

As Contracts Manager at Severn Partnership, Jon now supports the management team in helping to expand the brand’s reach. He champions the importance of communication, effective listening and continuous improvement in reaching the business growth objectives.

With a strong commitment to developing new talent, Jon takes pride in using his experience to assist with the personal and professional development of his team, and is excited to contribute to their success.

Simon joined Severn Partnership in 2023 after previously working as a Business Development Representative, where he supported the growth and expansion of service portfolios.

With over 20 years of experience in retail management and business development, Simon is passionately driven by results and thrives on building relationships and creating value for clients and stakeholders.

Simon's role as Business Development Manager leverages his retail sales skills and expertise to identify and pursue new opportunities for Severn Partnership, identify new clients and deliver solutions that meet the needs and expectations of our clients in various sectors, such as infrastructure, construction and environmental.

Simon also manages our CRM system, updating contacts and tracking the sales pipeline daily.

Outside of work, Simon enjoys spending quality time with his partner and twin girls. He also runs a competitive triathlon team with over 300 members globally.

John joined Severn Partnership in 2012 after working as a Hydrographic, Meteorological and Oceanographic Surveyor in the Royal Navy.

Beginning with the role of surveyor, John quickly rose through the ranks to Senior Surveyor before reaching his current position as a highly-regarded Project Manager.

John also has company-wide responsibility for Health & Safety. He is responsible for ensuring our work practices remain compliant with not only legally required standards, but those of our clients too.

John takes pride in maintaining trusted client relationships and being a reliable point of contact for any issues or feedback that may arise.

He has been involved in a number of key infrastructure works and is currently responsible for the management of a large project involving the rail upgrade between Manchester and Leeds.

John is a dedicated family man and enjoys spending as much time as possible with his wife and two young daughters.

Ian joined Severn Partnership in 2026 as Head of Monitoring, bringing over 20 years of experience across engineering survey, structural and geotechnical monitoring, and major infrastructure delivery.

His career has been spent working in safety-critical environments, with a particular focus on rail and large-scale civil engineering projects. Most recently, Ian led a geospatial and monitoring function on HS2, where he was responsible for safety, delivery and commercial performance across multidisciplinary teams supporting one of the largest infrastructure programmes in Europe.

Ian has a broad technical background spanning engineering survey, structural and geotechnical monitoring, automated monitoring systems, data management, reporting and technical assurance. Having worked across both field delivery and senior operational leadership, he brings a practical understanding of how monitoring projects should be designed, delivered, checked and communicated to clients.

At Severn Partnership, Ian is responsible for developing the monitoring department, building capability and ensuring clients receive accurate, timely and well-presented data to support their projects. He takes pride in mentoring those around him, improving processes, and creating practical systems that allow the team to deliver consistently and to a high standard.

Ian is currently completing his ILM Level 7 Strategic Leader Apprenticeship and is working towards professional membership of CICES.

Outside of work, Ian enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, visiting new places and walking. He is also a keen technology enthusiast, enjoys tinkering with his home server setup, and has a long-standing passion for solving problems with spreadsheets - especially when making them do things they were never really designed to do!

Nathan joined Severn Partnership in 2012 having studied Surveying and Mapping Sciences BSc (Hons) at the University of East London.

After completing his degree, Nathan joined the company as a Surveyor in Training before being promoted to Surveyor, Senior Surveyor and now his current role of Project Manager.

Nathan’s responsibilities vary from planning the company's High Output site works and quality checking, to liaising with project teams daily. He takes pride in providing deliverables to the highest possible standard and passing his specialized knowledge on to the junior members of his team. This knowledge comes from the numerous High Output key projects that Nathan has managed through his career, including Curzon Street HS2 Works and Bromsgrove A38.

Nathan is a dedicated Aston Villa F.C. supporter.

James is a long-standing member of the Severn Partnership team having joined the company in 2005. He has over 15 years of experience within many survey environments and disciplines including road, rail, mobile mapping, and Scan2Bim.

James' responsibilities as Technical Manager vary daily, from streamlining workflows and training our teams, to BIM compliance. A recent achievement for him was passing the ISO-19650 BIM Level 2 UK National Annex accreditation for Severn Partnership last year, making us one of the first survey companies to attain this certification in the UK.

James' biggest challenge whilst working at Severn Partnership has been managing the High Output Department, delivering data for a respectable 208 sites in 6 regions throughout the UK in 2018 alone.

James takes pride in challenging himself to learn the latest survey, CAD and 3D modelling software. The most recent of these was Microstation TopoDot, which he studied in order to train a team in streamlined CAD extraction workflows.

Outside of work, James enjoys pursuing his passion for 3D modelling and is a keen cyclist.

Chris has 25 years experience in the geospatial industry, with time spent working in a wide variety of sectors across the property and infrastructure markets.

After spending the first 5 years of his career as a site engineering surveyor, Chris returned to University to undertake an MSc in Surveying at UCL and then progressed to a survey management role overseeing a team of surveyors providing engineering surveying services on major rail regeneration projects across London.

Driven by a desire to experience the wider world of surveying, in 2011, Chris moved into a project management role overseeing a wide range of projects providing laser scanning, BIM modelling, measured building and topographic surveys to a broad range of clients across multiple built environment sectors. From here, Chris progressed to operations management and on to wider team leadership, leading large teams supporting some of the most iconic redevelopments of recent times, including The Shard, The Barbican Estate, and London Bridge Station.

Today, Chris heads up the Aviation and Built Environment team at Severn Partnership, with responsibility for the full client cycle, from initial relationships through to sales, operations, and delivery.

Away from work Chris enjoys playing and coaching youth football and spending time with his young family.

Luke joined Severn Partnership in 2015, and now in his role as Project Manager for mobile mapping, Luke continues to build on his expertise and passion for innovation.

He specialises in working with the Leica Pegasus system, to deliver value to our clients through accurate data produced in the safest and quickest way possible. Luke thrives on the challenge of tackling large infrastructure projects, often devising inventive solutions to achieve success.

Luke recently completed his degree in Surveying & Mapping Sciences at the University of East London, supported by Severn Partnership. His commitment to continuous learning and self-motivation has also taken him across Europe, where he has contributed to various large-scale mobile mapping projects.

Outside of work, Luke enjoys staying active and spends his spare time at the gym, mountain biking and riding motocross.

After completing his degree in Environmental Science at Liverpool Hope University, Connor joined Severn Partnership in 2015 as an Assistant Surveyor.

Since then, Connor has progressed through the company and is now a Project Manager, responsible for overseeing all utility detection surveys. He has worked on a wide range of projects nationwide, from RAF bases in northern Scotland to coastal surveys in Cornwall. Connor's experience also extends beyond utility detection, including topographic, river, rail, drone and engineering/setting-out surveys.

In 2024, Connor became a member of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES), and also holds a number of industry-recognised safety and technical certifications, including SMSTS, PTS, High-Risk Confined Space Training and the Pro Qual Level 3 Award in Utility Mapping and Surveying.

In his current role, Connor leads and manages the Utility Detection team at Severn Partnership, ensuring all projects are planned, delivered and executed safely. As Project Manager, he has worked on various utility mapping projects, including Newport’s Old Hill Interchange upgrade, Coventry Very Light Rail installations, the Shrewsbury North West Relief Road, and most recently, the provision of topographic and underground survey data for multiple Severn Trent sites across the Midlands.

Connor is passionate about developing and mentoring junior surveyors, helping them to build their skills and progress within the profession.

Damian joined Severn Partnership in 2023 as a Bid Writer & Estimator, having entered the industry in 2018 after a career change.

Through a mixture of site based work and office roles, Damian has gained a wealth of experience and a well-rounded understanding of project delivery from initial enquiry to completion.

Damian previously worked with structural steel and cladding works, as well as road surfacing and paving contracts, before moving into geospatial surveying. Now at Severn Partnership, he supports on small-scale projects to multi-million-pound frameworks, preparing accurate, detailed and commercially competitive estimates and bid submissions, and works closely with commercial teams, project managers, suppliers and clients to ensure proposals are compliant and aligned with project requirements.

Damian is passionate about continuing to develop his skills in bid writing and estimating, and holds a range of site access and competency tickets to attend and assess a variety of project environments first-hand.
He also holds a Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment and is currently working towards a professional degree qualification in Quantity Surveying.

Katie joined the Severn Partnership team in 2016, having studied at the University of Central Lancashire.

She is solely responsible for the company's HR processes and is the main point of contact for all Severn Partnership team members. She is heavily involved in our recruitment process and plays a key role in the onboarding of all new employees. She also manages the company's payroll, ensuring everything from payslips and pensions to overtime payments are accurate and on time.

Another key responsibility of Katie's is assisting with the preparation and completion of Severn Partnership's health and safety audits.

Katie takes pride in the positive attitude she brings into the workplace, as well as the organised and pro-active approach she has to her job role.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and young son. She also loves time spent outdoors, especially when with and looking after her horse.

Samantha joined the Severn Partnership team in 2020 and has achieved a BTEC National Diploma.

With over ten years of customer service experience, Sam provides admin support to all members of staff, as well as logging and converting the company’s enquiries. She works closely with the Project Management team to ensure the required equipment is available and that it is fully maintained.

Sam particularly enjoys working within a team and thrives on responsibility. She takes pride in staying organised, providing good service, and keeping others happy.

Outside of work, Sam enjoys being outdoors. She regularly takes long walks through the surrounding countryside, enjoys baking with her children at the weekend, and spending time with family and friends.
