Scan2BIM – 3D Laser Scanning a Cinema
Scan2BIM – 3D Laser Scanning a Cinema Summary:
Laser scanning used for re-design of a Midlands based cinema, taking into consideration acoustic and visual factors. Our Scan2BIM team were commissioned by a local architectural practice to scan 14 cinemas and produce 2D sections and floor plans for each auditorium.
By utilising the scan cloud designers can consider all noise, vibration, audio-visual, lighting, and technical systems design factors. It is important for acoustic designers to make reverberation, critical distance and absorption calculations. Having the visual representation of an existing cinema in the form of a 3D model or scan cloud can provide all dimensions, materials as well as locations of key equipment such as the projector, screen and seating. A 3D model including this information can be used within analysis software to generate acoustic and vibration calculations. Once a 3D model has been created it can be used to incorporate other design factors such as building regulations and lighting, allowing the designer, owner or end user to fully visualise the proposed experience using virtual reality. Any changes to the design can then be made at an early stage.
