River and Structure Surveys
River and Structure Surveys for Flood Defence Management – Summary:
Topographic Survey, Structure Surveys and River Sections were carried out to ascertain level information across an area of coastal marsh land that is prevalent to flooding. The survey objective was to obtain asset level data and channel cross sections to enable refinement of a hydraulic model.
The survey was required to improve conditions of the marsh for wildlife and gain a greater understanding of water flow in the area. Severn Partnership completed the works using an integrated total station and GPS system. This allowed the total station to be set up and coordinated in difficult to access locations with the added benefit of being able to switch to the GPS receiver if line of sight to the total station was lost.
Due to the dense nature of vegetation in the area, this approach greatly reduced the time required on site and allowed us to collect data in areas that would not be accessible using both systems independently.
Accurate and fast survey data collection in difficult to access and heavily vegetated areas using integrated surveying workflow.
