Severn Partnership – Energy & Utilities Survey
Utility surveys for the water industry, natural gas and electricity suppliers are carried out to rigorous predefined contract specifications. We have the resource and equipment to survey any given project from small complicated substations and gas holders to long thin strips of land for pipe or cable route way leaves.
In high voltage environments such as power distribution/transmission sites, safety and accuracy are of prime importance. We have used our experience in 3D laser scanning to provide surveying and 3D modelling solutions to the utilities industry. This technique allows us to remotely (without physical contact) survey high voltage equipment, creating 3D point cloud datasets – from which we can extract:
- 2D or 3D plans / topographic surveys.
- 2D elevations and cross sections.
- 3D models & visualisations.
This data can be used to verify or update existing archive data sets. With a positional accuracy of better than 1cm, linked to existing coordinated control, our data is ideally suited to retrofitting or reverse engineering projects.
For water companies, we can survey reservoirs for hard bed and silt level volumes, provide RTK GPS for watercourse and flood alleviation surveys and we have confined spaces experience for difficult to access areas. Also, read our monitoring pages for tracking deformation during under track crossing deviation drilling (UTX monitoring).
For TV & Telecommunications we have mapped telephone mast location sites of both proposed and existing transmitter stations for castle transmission. The deliverables here being topographical surveys with added condition assessment and photography around each site.
For British Gas / Transco we have completed multiple brown field re-development topographical surveys of gas holding stations – prior to re-development of the sites.
Our 3D modelling department can also create the source 3D landscape models required for visual impact analysis, horizon and line of sight data.
