Railway Project Planning & Safety
Railway Project Planning & Safety Summary:
Project planning to track access – we can arrange it all. We have years of experience and the alternative is costly missed shifts, wasted project time and delays.
Working in the railway environment requires the highest levels of safety awareness, preparation and planning documentation. At Severn Partnership, we have evolved our working practices in line with changing safety requirements and have developed strong links with a number of agencies providing track access planning and safety-critical staff.
Severn Partnership’s aim is to optimise safety, quality & delivery by combining the best survey techniques with the right track access planning & paperwork, executed by an experienced ‘on track’ team.
We are able to create work package plans, Safe system of work (SSOW) documents, task briefing sheets and all aspects of access to the rail environment. This knowledge also allows us to communicate effectively with our client’s planning teams to ensure shifts run as smoothly as possible.
Severn Partnership work in conjunction with Rail Possession Planners to enable survey can be carried out utilising Midweek Line Blockages; booked through the GAZAC, nominally one week in advance and Weekend T3 Possessions booked through the PPS nominally ten weeks in advance. We ensure attendance at pre-possession PICOP’s meetings to avoid our requirements for survey being overlooked in favour of heavy engineering works. We can also arrange ARPCR brief attendance, Isolation booking and responsible managers.
A weekly excel spreadsheet is completed detailing the areas in which we are working and the amount of Red Zone / Green Zone working is shared with the client.
Severn Partnership has a good working relationship with agencies that supply rail safety-critical staff which means that access is available to considerable resources; at short notice if necessary. All the required agency safety staff (COSS, Sitewardens, PCs, Lookouts, Handsignalman) excluding ES & PICOP are booked and arranged by Severn Partnership Project Managers.
Between 2011 and 2012, a total of 30 track survey sites were delivered on one project alone – ahead of schedule, using a combination of daytime, Midweek night and weekend blockages.
When preparing a quotation, we use our extensive knowledge of the rail environment to advise you on the best, most efficient route to complete the survey. This may involve a number of different safety regimes such as daytime Redzone, Greenzone, midweek night possessions, weekend possessions, and the use of a variety of survey techniques to get the job done.
If it needs track access – we can arrange it – the alternative is costly delays & wasted time.
