3D Laser Scan & Model of Darwin Monument
3D Laser Scan & Modelling of Darwin Monument Summary:
3D Laser scan & 3D model of a complex sculpture known as the Darwin monument in Shrewsbury.
Severn Partnership were commissioned to laser scan and create a 3D modelled representation of the Darwin monument – Quantum leap which sits in the memorial gardens by the River Severn.
Laser scanning was ideal for this application as the complex ‘spine’ leaves constantly change in shape and orientation through the sculpture. NURBS modelling & meshing techniques were applied to recreate the structure.
The high accuracy model was then used to create a report on angles/orientation/directions through the sculpture for structural engineers to analyse. Photo-realistic visualisations were also created to help with the clients marketing of the project.
This modelled detail was then used as the basis for creating an interactive visualisation App through our Sister Company Seeable !
